Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient Treatment

The Walker Center offers an array of services for both adults, adolescents, and their families.

The Walker Center Outpatient Treatment Program is offered in Twin Falls, Idaho. The outpatient program provides clients with the tools to structure a substance-free lifestyle and the support to maintain abstinence from drugs and alcohol. Treatment is individualized for each client based on the client’s initial assessment and ongoing progress in treatment as assessed by the American Society of Addiction Medicine Criteria.

The assessment is the beginning of the treatment process consisting of a comprehensive evaluation to include: demographic information, presenting problem, use history including withdrawal potential and acute intoxication, biomedical conditions, emotional and behavioral conditions, readiness to change, relapse potential, family history and recovery environment, collateral reports, strengths and needs, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. This information drives the treatment process including the development of a Problem List and Treatment Plan. Specific barriers to treatment are identified at this time including, but not limited to: lack of transportation, childcare, housing, and/or employment. Coordination with referral sources such as doctors, employers, probation officers/court/judges, and family members is achieved so appropriate actions can be taken to reduce these barriers.

High Intensity Outpatient Program

The High Intensity Outpatient program emphasizes the use of cognitive behavioral approaches and educational components to increase abstinence, promote relapse prevention, and develop the understanding of the disease model while promoting the familiarization with 12-Step programs, family codependency counseling, problem solving skills, stress management and family communication skills.

Low Intensity Outpatient Program

The Low Intensity Outpatient program is designed for clients who are in the early stages of change or those who are not yet ready to commit to full recovery. The client will understand the compromises and changes needed to be made for recovery. Drug testing is required to help clients gain accountability and provide structure. The treatment emphasizes abstinence, relapse prevention, disease model education, familiarization with 12-Step programs, family codependency counseling, problem solving skills, stress management and family communication skills.

Early Intervention and Education

The Early Intervention program is a cognitive based model that supports clients’ awareness of risk factors, potential consequences, and identifying changes that align with the clients personal values and goals for the future. This program is designed to support clients in identifying behaviors that put the individual at risk for developing a substance use disorder, to assist in deterring this outcome with providing relevant educational content.

Relapse Prevention Treatment

Relapse Prevention groups are designed to deliver information, support and skill development to clients as they proceed through recovery. Clients will learn to address their specific situations that have relapse potential. The relapse prevention group identifies the relapse process and clients individualize their relapse prevention planning to high risk situations as well as develops interventions skills, copings skills and utilize sober support.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) Treatment

MRT is a systematic, step-by-step treatment strategy designed to enhance self-image, promote growth of a positive, productive identity and facilitate the development of higher stages of moral reasoning. MRT has been determined to significantly raise moral reasoning levels, life purpose, and other positive personality variables. The Walker Center uses the How to Escape Your Prison, MRT workbook by Little and Robinson.

Anger Management and Coping with Intense Emotions

Anger management and Coping with Intense Emotions is a cognitive based model to challenge internal dialogue and cognitive distortions as well as incorporate skills to better regulate high stress emotions. The curriculum and content covered is offered in an interactive group format to illicit discussion and related sharing while implementing change strategies. This program is beneficial for those with or without a substance use disorder.

Individual Treatment

The Walker Center currently incorporates individual sessions into the treatment plan to address issues specific to the client’s needs. If there are cultural, language, developmental or other treatment needs such as mental health or physical health concerns, these can be addressed in individual sessions. It is to be noted that The Walker Center philosophy, as evidenced in best practice, is that the majority of treatment occurs in group.
